Rising to the Challenge: Small Business Leaders Gather to Tackle U.S.-Canada Trade Pressures

April 15, 2025 – Oakville, Ontario — Hosted by Canada Electric Vehicle and Green Energy Advanced Association (EVGEA) and the Halton Small Business Association, the "Rising to the Challenge: Small Business Exchange on U.S.-Canada Trade Pressures" was successfully held today at the River Oak Community Centre. The event marked the official inauguration of both organizations with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and served as a valuable platform for Halton region's small business owners to connect, collaborate, and exchange ideas.

Distinguished guests in attendance included Councillor Dr. Scott Xie, Oakville Mayor Mr. Rob Burton, The Honorable Anita Anand, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry。

Matt Setzkorn, President of EVGEA, Tianna Feng, President of the Halton Small Business Association, and Kathy Liu, Executive Director of Land to Innovate. Each delivered inspiring remarks, reaffirming their commitment to supporting small businesses during challenging economic times.

Matt Setzkorn emphasized the importance of resilience and collaboration, stating, "In the face of shifting global trade dynamics, it is essential for small businesses to unite and innovate together." Tianna Feng highlighted the local entrepreneurial spirit, noting, "The strength and creativity of Halton's small business community is what brings us here today." Kathy Liu added that innovation and cross-sector collaboration will be key to future economic transformation.

The event featured dynamic discussions where business owners shared their real-world experiences navigating trade-related disruptions. The panel sessions focused on critical topics such as supply chain adaptation, market diversification, and leveraging government support, sparking meaningful dialogue and actionable ideas.

Beyond networking and knowledge-sharing, the event also sent a powerful message: even amid global trade challenges, Halton's small businesses remain confident, proactive, and determined to grow—fueling the region's continued economic vitality.
